Can I walk on underlay till I can afford carpet

Options
Hi,

Can I lay underlay and walk on that for a while till we can afford carpet or will this just ruin the underlay?

Also in the how to lay underlay vidoes they tend to use a spray glue. I want to put backing paper down first to cover any dust can I just lay the underlay without glue?

Cheers

Dave

I had a 'short term' delay on a new carpet (having taken up the old carpet to save a bit of cash but left the underlay in place as a temporary covering). Due to a complication (I wont bore you with the detail) I was using the underlay as the carpet for over a month. Looks aside (horrible) it started to break up and was wreck by the time the carpet fitter showed up. I was going to replace it anyway, so not a problem.

I am not a fitter but if you have gripper rods (I was told) you dont need adhesive. Since I have, I didn't need the glue....

    Good luck.

Cheers I will give that Idea a miss then :-) Floors are bare boards just now so was going to do the underlay myself as i can get it much cheeper than the carpet places sell it.

Keep in mind that carpet 'sheds' make a lot of margin on underlay Dave. but sell the carpet cheap(er) to attract/draw you in. You may not get a 'deal' on the carpet unless you buy their underlay.

good luck and may the carpet fairy smile on you :)
