complain to Lloyds for misadvising at account opening: silver as the only option

Hi,three years ago my friend, who just arrived to the uk , was miss advised at a Lloyds branch that his only option to open a bank account is the Silver. The adviser didn't mention the free basic current account. He didn't sign any contract with them either, only the advisor signed her own. When he was charged the first monthly fee he thought that everybody pays for cards as didn't realised that he was misadvised at the bank.He never used any of the benefits of the silver account .It was only recently that he found out that opening a silver account are not the only option. Complaining about this and asking for refund is what I think he should do.My question is whether any of you heard of similar cases and what was the outcome if they complained at the bank? Thanks
