gas meter
Hi
Does anyone know who checks gas meters. I have had a bill from Eon for £591 from March - May. I live alone and am out all day at work, but have checked meter reading from the start (jan) and they seem to be right. My gas meter was moved from inside the house to outside the house when i got the keys to the house in November. Everyone in the square was done. could there be a fault with my meter - if so who do I contact?

But is the bill all for actual usage March-May, or does it include usage prior to that, i.e. were previous bills estimated and hence this is a big 'catch up bill?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You should contact your supplier EON, who will arrange for the meter to be checked. However if there is no fault you will be charged.
First off are the meter readings on the bill estimates or actual.
Also if you have had the meter changed it may be that the old one was imperial and the new one metric.
Check the meter it should have M3 on it, then check the units conversion on the bill.
If I remember correctly, if a metric reading is mistaken for an imperial one it can result in a factor of 3 error in the resultant bill. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
no, this is the energy charges for that period!0

thanks will check meter when i go home.
the first meter readin on bill is an actual then the rest at estimates but have given them an actual and got £100 credit0 -
oh forgot to mention I pay £88 per month, this debt is after this is credited.0

If you get a bill that is to an estimated reading, take a reading and call your supplier before doing ANYTHING else.0

Other simple quick check, are your direct debit payments actually showing on the bill? Or is it just something the supplier said they would do?I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0

direct debits are showing on the bill0

Hi milo28,
Already some good advice, so thanks guys.
Just to make it clear.
Did you give the reading to us from the day you moved in?
Have bills since then been charged to estimated or accurate readings?
If they have been estimated it sounds like a catch up bill, now we have billed up to accurate readings.
Is the Direct Debit payment for both gas and electricity?
