Car park issues

We live in a development with 6 blocks of flats.

One of the tenants has moved on. He has left a trailer tent parked in the private car park. We have tasked the Management Contractor to locate his new address and ask him to move it. We have suggested they track via owner of the flat or through DVLA using the number plate on the trailer.

Management Contractor have told us they will try, but if they are unable to contact the ex-tenant or he ignores their request there is no legal remedy. Please note it is a large car park and it would not be pratical to install security gates or posts.

We would be obliged if anyone has any experience with similar issues in Scotland? :T

Hmm at least if the trailer is parked on private land it would seem unlikely that there is no legal remedy...
  • I don't know whether it is an option- but can you report it to the council as abandoned? There's some information here about it http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/WhereYouLive/Streetcleaninglitterandillegaldumping/DG_4001703

I don't think abandoned property / council involvement counts on private land.
  • sorry my tuppence worth isn't much help, but.....

a few years ago someone dumped an un taxed / un roadworthy car in my allocated parking space when I lived in a flat, and it was an absolute NIGHTMARE!

I called the police and they said if I moved it I could be charged. Management company said they wouldn't touch it for the same reason.
DVLA said they couldn't do anythign as it was on private property.....

I think it got moved eventually, although I can't remember how/ why, it was about 9 years ago.

    Good luck!

    Sound about right.
The police aren't interested because it's not speeding (ie there's no money to be made).
The DVLA aren't interested because they can't fine the owner for not taxing it.

The fastest way to get an abandoned car (or trailer) removed is to get it labelled as a public health hazzard...
