Super Off Peak Day Travelcard

I've used one of these before for a cheap day return on Virgin trains between Manchester-London on Saturdays. However, although I know Virgin don't sell them via their website, I can't recall where I did purchase it from. Anyone know of a train site that does sell them?

    Southern sell them at £34.60.

    Same on EastCoast.

    Probably others.

    Very restrictive return leg though...
Must leave Euston between 3pm an 5pm.

Thanks. Now purchased. Just to clarify, though. There are no restrictions for return with this ticket. You can come back on any train, which makes it a very cheap open day return. I've saved £88.50 compared to using Virgin's own site which does not sell this ticket.

"Open" used to mean a ticket that was valid for a month, until 2008. I can see why it was changed!

How is that saving calculated? I would have thought that the comparison would be an Off Peak Return Manchester - London plus an Off Peak One Day Travelcard, which would cost at least £10 less than the saving quoted?
  • Sorry that's for multiples and should have read £84.80. Individually, an off peak return ticket and a London Travelcard would cost £77. A Super Off Peak Day Travelcard saves you £42.40. Not a bad saving:) And possibly why Virgin don't advertise them.

    Yes, you are right.

Cannot now remember how I came to a different conclusion ten days ago.
