in Cutting tax
Hi all, been reading these forums ages, but this is first post.
I got (took) redundancy in 2010, 9th April was last work day. I was paid my redundancy and wages and PILON in April, but in week 4 of the new 2010/11 tax year. (age 32 earning around 25k gross, tax code 653L) this accrued a lot of PAYE tax! I also received a further payment in week 8 due to company underpaying my redundancy/PILON the tax code on this payslip was BRW1 and again there was a lot of PAYE tax deducted.
After that I claimed JSA for around 6 months then got another job, all fine. now paying paye again etc.
People, (ok my mother) tell me that i maybe due a tax refund, due to paying all that tax and not working all of that tax year, is this right?

Can you post your total taxable income and tax paid - that would help.....0

i have all the info infront of me (a huge stack of wageslips and p60s going back 11 years) but not sure which bits you need.
the week 52 payslip for 09/10 year says £27,644 gross taxable, £4221 tax paid (which matches the p60 for that year)
then after redundancy in 10/11 tax year week 04
£6765 taxable gross £1929 paid
and because they messed up i got a week 08 paylip
£8101 taxable gross £2198 paid
I did a temp job for a week in july payslip says £7112 taxable £1957 paid
but the p60 for 2010/2011 I have 2 one for the job I did from oct 2010 to mar 2011, 5k taxable £500 deducted
and my current employers one from mar11 (still 10/11 tax year) says £1000 total £95 paid0 -
Do you have the P45 from the jobcentre as this will need to be included in the calculation[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

No, I dont appear to have that, only 1 from my temp job and and one from the job i had after.
note the temp job i had was for a week, in july so i was unemployed in 2 periods, from april till that week in july, then after that job, unemployed (and on jsa) again from july till oct.0 -
You will need to contact the job centre and ask them for a statement of benefit which includes details of any tax refunds made.
Once you have this information write to HMRC, enclosing the statement of benefit, advising that you believe you are entitled to a repayment and are enclosing the JSA information. Confirm in the letter who you worked for and mark it 'REPAYMENT CLAIM' at the top of the letter.
The process should take approx 4 - 5 weeks.
If you want to check that you are due a refund before you write to HMRC, post the figures up here.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Did you really earn 7112 for one weeks work ?0 -
That could be a cumulative figure?Signature removed for peace of mind0

£7k for a weeks work, no lol , its cumulative, but strange that has not carried over to the payslips later in that tax year?
Thanks a lot, seems I will have to write to the benefits office0 -
