Woolwich is part of Barclays, and has been for some time. They are now transferring all banking arrangements to Barclays.
No i dont think you can expect any compensation as they are offering the same services to you (other than the convenient branch).
If you need a counter service and the Barclays is inaccessible I suggest you review your banking arrangements.0 -
Most people who were customers of the Woolwich in 1997 will would have received 'free' shares in them when they demutualised.
When Barclays took them over in 2000, those shareholders (if they hadn't sold their shares) were either offered cash and/or Barclays shares..

Is it me, or are people asking this question for every minor inconvevience?
No it is not just you. Before long someone will be wanting compensation because the little man at the traffic lights didn't go green the minute they walked up to the crossing.0 -

This also happened at the Woolwich (see previous post), though I presume you were not with them at the time. Barclays took them over some time ago and are now doing some housekeeping.0 -
i have a 100 pound overdraft with woolwich will i lose this when barclays take over cant really afford that if they do0

I doubt it as its just a change or name. Barclays 'took over' years ago but instead of having two different brands its merging into one.

GOYA and move your account to a bank with a local presence.
