RBS Select Silver Account

Hi Guys & Gals!

I'm new to this so please bear with me!

I've applied for the RBS Select Silver Account and awaiting the paperwork coming through as it said online I was accepted for the account requested (also said I could choose royalties gold instead).

Having read some confusing things on other websites I thought this would be the best place to get the answers I need. (It seems as though this is the exact same account that Natwest offer too btw.)

Anyway! What I was wondering, is 1: there a chance I will be given one of these cards that is the replacement for RBS' Solo card rather than the full Maestro replacement aka, a full current account type card? (They both are visa debit but wondering what's the difference in these type of cards) and 2: have I been credit checked for this? I don't think I've got the best of credit anymore due to foolish spending in the past, but showing that I could choose royalties gold made me think otherwise.

If it's any help, I requested a chequebook but didn't want the overdraft facility so didn't take it.

If you've managed this far and ur not confused, well done! :p
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advance! :D

If you had the option of Royalties Gold the credit check (which will have been done - an initial one anyway) has been passed. If not you would have been offered only the Basic and the credit restricted version of Select Silver.

As for the card, it will be a Visa Debit. The colour will tell you which of the two types it is.

If you clicked yes to overdraft and it gave a suggested limit then card should be purple, if it said an overdraft couldn't be agreed at present then should be a blue card.

i didn't want the overdraft, it asked if one was required and i clicked no.
so what's the difference between these cards; just the colour or is it a case of it's one of these 'solo replacements' or 'offline cards' etc?

With RBS, I believe both of their visa debit cards are blue. It's Natwest that issue the purple offline and blue full auth cards. If your card begins 4751 16, then your card is the full authorisation card, and won't work in pay at pump machines, or on trains.

You're incorrect. It's exactly the same with RBS.

Sorry incorrect about what? The debit card shown on the RBS website is blue, not purple like Natwest. Have RBS changed their cards then?

You said 'I believe both of their visa debit cards are blue'.

RBS issue two different coloured cards, as Natwest do. It's been that way since the cards were introduced.

RBS have never issued 2 different coloured cards they have always been Blue.

Both of them look like this

One used to say nothing on the front and the other said highline 100 for the offline one. Now they both say nothing.

Natwest have a purple offline card, and a blue online card.
  • Actually they are both blue, but one is lighter than the other.

The lighter one was the more "basic" of the two.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

As Twister says there are two different colours.

One as per your picture, the other is a turquoisey/blue.
