Whats everyone doing for catering in evening?

Hi all, after much deliberation my H2B and I have decided to have a knife and fork buffet through the day and then we were going to do a hog roast in the evening. The problem is I am not really liking the hog roast idea anymore and wanted to look for something a bit more unusual. Any ideas or inspiration? We don't want anything too big and needs to come under £500.

Thanks

  • We are doing fish n chips!

  • we're having the hog roast! our supplier is also doing jacket potatoes and bean chilli (or barbecue beans) as an alternative.

Our original plan was stuffed peppers (pepper cut vertically in half, hollowed out and filled with risotto, baked in the oven til tastygood!) or stuffed mushrooms with a big pasta salad, salad, cheese buffet.
    Life on a shoestring!

We're having all our guests to the whole day and night - I don't want to ask anyone to 'just' the evening bit as the reception is 30 miles from my home town.

Sooo... we're giving them tea, coffee, wine, canapes and sandwiches when they arrive at the reception venue at about 3pm, to keep them going till dinner. Nothing worse than cranky, hungry guests!

Dinner (4 courses) will be around 6pm, then wedding cake, tea and coffee affter the band (about 11:30pm). And that's it!

I went to a friend's wedding (all day) where they served us a snack late in the evening of rolls, chips, fish fingers and bacon - instant butties. It was delicious and fun and helped soak up the booze :)
  • I am getting married at 2 so day guests won't be fed until 5.30pm. There will then be light snacks for evening guests from 8pm - posh crisps, crackers, cheese boards, olives.

We're not getting married til 5 (and eating at 6.30 ish) so not feeding people in the evening as well. We're having a sweetie buffet and half of me wants an ice cream van but I'm not sure OH will go for that!
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

  • We are liking the idea of bacon and egg rolls for the evening. Its a lot cheaper than the buffet or hog roast at our venue of choice. We are having a sweetie buffet and will also serve out wedding cake and maybe some cup cakes as dessert. I would like a candy floss stand as well but OH thinks that the children will be bouncing off the walls so is not keen on the idea.

We're having cheese and biscuits with pickles and chutneys and our caterers are also cutting up our cakes for us (which are being made by family members) so it will cost £2.75 a head.
Also, the caterers will wrap any leftover cheese and pop it in the fridce for us to collect the following day when we tidy the hall.
