Redundancy advice please

Hi,
I have been given notice of redundancy and told my redundancy payment based on 7 years service. However before the redundancy date (31st December) I will have been with the company 8 years, am I entitled to 8 years payment please?
Also, my company have given me 16 weeks notice rather than the 7 that I am entitled to (because the other person being made redundant has been with the company longer). However they are requiring that I work until 31st December to be eligible for my redundancy. Is this permittable? I am in limbo because if I find a job now they are saying that I cannot have the redundancy, yet I would not choose to leave the company so that seems a little unreasonable.
Any advice very gratefully received please

1. Yes - if you are actually working your notice beyond the anniversary then you should get 8 years pay.
2. If you want to leave before the effective date of your redundancy then you can give counternotice. However you MUST only give counternotice in your statutory notice period ie in your case during the last 7 weeks of it, otherwise you will lose your entitlement to redundancy pay.0 -
Thank you that is really helpful.
I had a meeting this afternoon and they have agreed to correct my redundancy package0
