It's no different from someone manually snipe bidding in the last few seconds of an auction, which is how most people bid now, except you don't need to be at the computer. There's no danger of forgetting to bid.
If two people want it & put in their maximum bids it will work as any other form of bidding, the highest bid wins.

ive lost many items as they end very late at night or very early in the morning (10pm to 9am), so i tend to use a snipe service so i have less chance of losing an item.
  • I've been using HammerSnipe for years. You only get 3 snipes for free at once but thats really all I need.

I used to "snipe" manually but it was awkward if the item was overseas and finished in the middle of the night. I would put a bid on and then find the next morning that somebody had kept upping their bid until they beat me. This happened quite a few times before I started using a sniper program. Also, getting the timing right was difficult with manual sniping. If you leave it too late, your bid doesn't go on and if you're too early, sombody who's on the ball can still outbid you.

I wouldn't be surprised if sniping has actually increased prices because of everybody putting their maximum bids on within second of each other!
  • I use JBidWatcher - it means that I don't have to reveal my eBay password to any third parties.

  • I use https://www.justsnipe.com/index.asp on the basis of advice I received here. 5 snipes are free per week, which fire 8 seconds before the auction end and it's never failed to place a bid (I've probably used it 50 times).

Over the years, I've heard many times of bidders losing out on a bargain because eBay logged them out as they were about to place in a last second bid. Using a sniper takes all the hassle and stress out - set the snipe and forget about it. ;)

    I'm using auctionstealer, http://www.auctionstealer.co.uk/home.cfm

I've noted that no-one seems to recommend this service. It does remind you very frequently of the additional services you can get with a paid subscription. Otherwise, it seems to do what it says on the tin. Does anyone know of any reason why auctionstealer isn't a good choice?

I'm surprised how many of the auctions that I snipe, that I win. I've not been a fan of sniping before, and mainly snipe to reduce the effect of shill bidding, as well as due to the experiences I've had when I've forgotten to bid near the end and missed an auction. But, the majority of the auctions I've sniped, I've won.

I've just searched the forum & there are several people who have recommended it in the past.
Maybe some of the others are mentioned more often as they're free.

Thanks. I'm only using the free version of auctionstealer. It does what I need. I can't remember what the limits are, but I don't buy that much on ebay and aren't restricted by them.
