Advice for Newbie wanting 1st CC

Options
I dont have a clue about most things you talk about on these boards, i've read martins article and it still confuses me.

All i want is a credit card to buy things of the internet. As some places dont accept my switch.

I would pay it back as soon as the bill comes, becasue it would just go out of my bank straight away anyway if i used a switch. So im not bothered about paying it up straight away. i dont want to be charged for anything and the more perks and freebies the better.
I am a student too if that makes any difference to freebie offers etc.

So any advise on a simple CC plan that would suit me would be much appriciated, as you all seem to know what your talking about on here.

Thanks

    Hi Laura

I would say the the best place to start maybe your bank. Who do you bank with? Look for a card that gives cash back and or a freebie. MBNA often have offers like free watchs etc.

I would advise to up a direct debit to always pay the account off in full wherever you are so you do not miss a payment and incur charges. My student son missed a payment with Barclaycard during the summer hols. It cost him a fortune in credit card charges as the charge and interest they then applied took him over his credit limit.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

I would suggest a cash back card - get paid on you purchases - not many of them around but Martin has an article on them.

Or maybe a card with added 'internet purchase protection' - I think Egg has this and maybe some of the online banks?

Thanks alot for your help, i bank with natwest and have just checked them out they do a student credit card, no frills but it keeps me in one bank. I have heard alot about the EGG card, seems alot of people on here use this, and the cashback is a plus.
My choice is narrowed down and i think it will be a choice between the Natwest, Egg or Mint card becasue that has internet security protection too.

Thnks very much for your advise
