hi, i am looking for some advice on company car tax. i started a new job 5 weeks ago and didnt even think to question it. i have been given a 1.7diesel vauxhall astra on a 56 plate, that has done 142k! i am expecting a new car in 2 months though. i sue the car solely for work, although i am entitled to use it for personal use at a rate of 15p per mile. i also have to pay for the fuel every day from my home to my closest site, approx 19 miles in total per day. the car is not logo'd and is a plain silver straight out th ebox type car. i have a much bigger, nicer car of my own so will never use the astra for personal use, but i do need a car for the job (or a van). my question is, do i have to pay company car tax? surely as i am paying for my own fuel every day from home to my closest site (even if i dont go there, every area manager pays the number of miles @15p per mile from home to their closest site and back), i am being taxed twice in effect? id appreciate any advice, as this would represent a big chunk of my earnings, salary is approx 19k per annum so i am not earning mega bucks!

Try the "cutting tax" forum. But I think all travel to normal place of work (commuting) is regarded as personal use...0
