35 in a 30

i got caught by a speed camera for the first time in over 10 years of driving, whilst i was at work. i didnt realise until the letter came through to the work place. i was doing 35 in a 30, on a main A road which i thought was 40 as its a wide and busy road.
anyway they have offered me to do an AA course for £95, but the locations nearest me are miles from public transport and i dont at the moment have a car. i dont drive out of work at the moment!
for this reason i am thinking of paying the £60 fine and getting 3 points , instead of having a day off work to do a course which will cost more.
i have been told 3 points wont really affect an insurance quote (30 yo male) and i may not even drive myself again in that time.
so before i do this just wondered what you thought whether this is the right decision in my position!

If you don't intend to own a car in the next 3 years and don't need a clean licence for work then the £60 is the MSE answer. But you never know what's round the next corner. It's been stated on here before that some insurance companies class the course as a conviction. Personally I'd do the course.0

Didn't affect my insurance when similar happened to me. Decided to take the points as it was cheaper than the course plus day off work0

I had a clean licence, got 3 points and insurance went up 50%. Same car, address etc. 31yo male.0

Then it was something else, because 3 points won't add anything.
Was this high premium an auto renewal?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No it was mid-policy, went from 400 to 600 for a full year equivalent. I was caught at 90 though, but it was just a standard SP50 code0

I got caught about 3 years ago and I opted for the course and asked for a saturday0

Taking the course is a no brainer. You don't have to declare it as a conviction because it isn't one. Whilst insurers might not be too bothered now about a single speeding conviction who knows what they might do in the future. They might see it as a means of raising extra cash to charge extra for a single conviction."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
