Please see end for update

Before I go buying a new monitor and wasting my money. :o

Currently got a Packard Bell TFT(?) 15 inch or whatever it is. Plugs in to the desktop/tower via a VGA connector. The end at the monitor is a sealed connection rather than removable. Recently the colour white has been coming out a shade of pink/red. This had been fixed simply by moving the wire where it connects to the desktop unit until it moves again. However, now it's almost completely black. You can barely make out the start button, icons etc. Wiggling the wire does nothing now.

I just wanted to rule out any motherboard problems. The VGA was perfectly still, and it was just moving the wire where it connects to it that was fixing the problem.

Does it sound like a faulty/loose wire where it connects to the VGA adaptor? I have tried unplugging etc.

Thanks. :)

UPDATE: Ok so I had a brainwave and plugged the monitor into my laptop. And it works. I do however still get the pink/red screen, but wiggling the wire corrects it. So now I'm wondering whether the motherboard connection is knackered as well! :undecided

From here difficult to tell, - possible all the wiggling may have had some effect to the PC end - only way to check is borrow any old monitor, doesn't matter if it is a CRT or LCD. and test it -hope it its okay.

The existing VGA cable should probably be replaced, even if one of the connections in the monitor has come loose - Open up the monitor and try connecting the new cable - it is colour coded so you should be able to work it out (make a map before you disconnect the old one). VGA cables are cheap so at worst thats all you can loose.

If the PC end also has a problem, I assume from what you say that it has inbuilt graphics - you can add a graphics card to bypass it if it is faulty - or if does have a separate card then just replace it.
