Holiday protection if company goes bust?

Im slightly confused and wonder if someone could help me

I've read on MSE that if booking a holiday then to use a credit card to pay so you are better protected if the company goes bust

Went into a travel agents today and they told me that that was "nonsense" and that "your covered anyway"

Which is right?

As you don't say which high street agent it is i'm guessing at 1 of the big ones, Tcook, thomsons etc, well they are ATOL + ABTA protected so there is no need to waste paying credit card fees as you are protected and probably most agents on the high street are but you'd be best to ask for their atol/abta numbers if its not the big 2. Just be wary if its not a package you've booked and its not with said 2.
  • Ah - was with Mr Thomson and defniitley a package. Doubt they would go bustt but thought id check (ya never know!)
