I have the 4TB version of MyDitto which saves carrying anything but a USB Key

    http://www.my-ditto.com/html/professional.html

These have some options for portables

I also use the Iomega external drives (as well as made up ones using samsing/wd drives in Akasa cases), but not the sizes you mention. I assume we are talking 2.5" drives.

The point I wish to make the min power draw is 5v 1000ma. Without an external power supply you need to make sure that the motherboard of the machine you are connecting to can handle it. Many can't, it tends to be a bit of a lottery - same for Macs as well as PCs/lappies etc. To avoid disappointment, have a 1A power supply to hand (beware many are less than 1A - these will not do - some manufacturers actually say 1.5A

My sister has a portable 320GB HDD and it came with a USB cable that had the connection on one end to go into the drive and two USB connections on the other, the second essentially to provide that bit more power.

I have one of these cables too, but it doesn't work on every PC/laptop - not the fault of the drive its because there is no consistent power from the board. - thats why many if not most external hdd's have a socket for a seperate power supply....
