All my data on 192.com

I just got curious and googled my name, I was shocked to see that people could get my address and probably more (I did not register) on 192.com
I am ex directory, and I would have thought that it would be enough to stop my data to be splashed on some website, but obviously not.
What do you have to do to prevent your personal data to be hijacked by some websites? Haven't they heard of identity theft?
Something strange is that the electoral roll column on 192.com goes up to 2009, when it should show up to 2011.
As far as I am concerned it shouldn't show up at all, nor my name and certainly not my address!

Unfortunately, if you don't opt to be removed from the edited electoral register, then you'll end up on 192.com
Even if you have opted out this year, previous years details will still show as your last registered address.
There are also websites like UKRoll, who purchase this info, and then allow people who subscribe (for a fee, shock horror) to view the details.

If you wish your Electoral roll details removed then download this form and send it to The CO1 Requests Administrator,192.com Limited, 8-10 Quayside Lodge, London, SW6 2UZ

I think it's wrong for any website to display your personal details without your permission, I think no websites should display them without asking first if you agree. If only for security purposes.
Imagine someone who is trying to rebuilt their life after escaping from an abusive partner, thinking that he/she won't find them.
They ask you to shred all your letters with personal data before binning them because of identity theft, then you realise there are enough stuff on the internet about you for anyone to get to and do whatever they want with them.
I don't mind for some authorities to check my details if must, but not every tom !!!!!! and harry.
  • i'd never heard of it so i've just put in my name. i'm not anywhere.

searched my maiden name and my current house is on there, i can't see the address as i'm not registered and we're under premium results, but i can see my husbands name and also the people who lived here before us as 'other occupants'
we moved in in 2003 it says the 4 of us (me my dh and the previous owners) from 2004 - 2008. *confused*
Do i need to do something to removed the other couple or to change my name?

I'm also shocked that if i was registered it seems that i could simply click a button next to someones name and see a list of their CCJs:eek:

CCJs, i.e. who has them, is public information... just like the electoral roll discussed above.

192.com shows all the occupiers of a property during a certain period of time. So if it says Alf and Ada A, and Bill and Betty B were the occupiers between 2005 and 2009, then the As could have lived there up to end of 2007 and the Bs from 2008.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
