Why is comparing unit prices/tariffs so difficult !?!

All I want to do is compare unit prices for No Standing Charge tariffs from Scottish Power (my current supplier) with those of British Gas et al.
Isn't there any site available which can just give me these figures, so that I can work out the best option for myself? I don't find the general cost comparison website to be particularly transparent in this regard.
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, of course.
Any suggestions?
