My daughter has had a letter from Halifax stating that she is in debit to £49. They say they are going to charge her £10 per day until she repays the debit. They state that she requested a number of payments on !0th Sept. This account has had nothing in it for around 5 years and has not been used in that time. She has no current bank card on this account and does not remember the pin even if she had. She made no request for any payments from the account. She has phoned twice and been told that the systems are down and that she should go into the branch with photo ID. Of course she is in a panic.

Write a letter explaining everything.
Halifax
P O Box 548
Leeds

Just say
"I have received this letter dated X about a debt on the account. This account has been inactive for a number of years and I do not have the debit card, nor the pin number of this account. I believe there must be fraud on the account. Could this please be investigated."
Or something to that effect.
Halifax also do not charge £10 a day fee, so no idea what you are seeing. Their unauthorised overdraft charge is £5 a day.
Or she can go into branch and sort it out, and CLOSE THE ACCOUNT.0 -
Thanks! She is going in tomorrow but she is convinced she'll have to pay it.:(0

If she does not recognise the transactions and they are fraudulant she will not have to pay the fees.0
