Sick of bank account charges - overdraft - paid items fees

The transactions go through for a variety of reasons, on smaller payments for example less than £10, the retailer won't always talk to the bank before processing the transaction. So it will come out a few days later.
When you pay for something and you don't have enough money in the account this is treated by the bank as a REQUEST by YOU for an unauthorised overdraft.
It is YOUR account. It is YOUR money. It is YOUR responsibility to manage it.
Why are the fees so high?
The simple answer is that in most other countries in the world "free banking" does not exist. You pay to write cheques, you pay to deposit cheques, you pay for debit card transactions, you pay for statements.
In Britain, the banks fund this free banking partly through extortionate charges. I don't particularly care because I can manage my money, and am quite happy to have my free banking subsidised by those that cannot.
For future reference, if you go overdrawn by less than £10, Santander will refund any charges you have incurred during that statement period.0 -
fair enough its my responsibliity to keep an eye on things. its just the last few months i was paying off credit cards and using overdraft to do this so have been close to the limit quite often. next target is to clear the overdrafts and hope i never get these fees again.0
