Credit Card PPI

I took a credit card out in the late 90's with NatWest. I was given PPI on the card.
My question is, as I was in the military and under contract for a minimum of 18 months notice to become a civvi, plus if I fell ill I was paid in full during this period did I need PPI? The only way I would have not have been paid, is if I was kicked out for gross misconduct, and I imagined that would have been in an exclusion?

I told the guy this on the phone at the tim,e but he said I needed it to get the card. Well as a young skint squaddie, I just wanted the card.

I eventually cancelled the PPI in 2008 as I could not afford the repayments with it on. £100 + pm in interest and PPI and a couple of quid on the actual balance.

Do I have a claim?

Any thought on this?

Regards

  • In theory, yes you do have a valid complaint.

However, NatWest it is clearly more than 6 years since the events you are complaining about and if you cancelled in 2008 that would suggest you ought to have realised at that time you had grounds for complaint.

If that was more than three years ago, they may (if they choose to) have a valid timebar - that would depend on when in 2008 you cancelled and when you cancelled but if you are going to complain I would get on with it if I were you.
