Chief IT Punkawallah. How cool woud that be to have on your business card. If you are the only one in the department, you should go the whole hog and ask, nay DEMAND to be appointed IT Director

In my industry / area, we use the term Information Management & Technology (IM & T) instead of IT, or ICT. Would IM & T Analyst work? Do you manage or analyse the network?

If you are looking for a new job soon, then I think the title you end up with will be important. Especially if you are looking to either move up the ladder (in which case you want something the emphasises you were the lead / manager / responsible person), or wanting a specific tecnical post (In which case, use analysist, controller, engineer etc). So long as the actual role you are carrying out, you have enough experience to allow you emphasise those points on your CV.

Oh, and "senior" doesn't imply age, you are not allowed to do that. Can't appoint someone as senior just because they are older. You can sometimes differenciate grades / titles of people that have more experience than their peers with the prefix senior.

Good luck, and hope it works out.

Systems Administrator (sysadmin) - it sounds like what you're doing. But frankly who cares - IT kudos is based on experience and ability, not job titles.
  • Manager of Information and Network Technology (MINT)
Person Responsible for Information, Communication Keysystems (!!!!!)
Communication and Universal Network Technician (take this as a very last resort)
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

That reminds me of the Thames Water Authorisation Team, where I worked years ago.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
  • An ICT technician would not usually have your level of responsibility. I think Network Administrator is a more suitable title. That's my title and you have described a similar role to mine. It is important because you may need to put it on a CV, and any references will mention your job title. If you accept ICT Technician and you apply for a job in the future, potential employers might think you are exaggerating your responsibilities, that's certainly what I did when I was an ICT Technician.

i look after all the IT duties (it is only me), front line helpdesk support, day to day running of the company (3 sites) and then i look after the stuff people don't see.

    backups
    antivirus
    servers
    PBX phone system
    networking
WIFI around the sites for customers
    CCTV

    to name a few.

Who does all that when you're on holiday?
