IT job Titles? Advice on new title
Comments

does it really make any difference, i see my job title as so important its not on my business cards or e-mail signature.
also long as the moneys corrcet for the role you are doing it makes no odds.

i am the only one in my department. i don't manage anyone however i do manage the systems/networks etc
to be honest i don't really want the head of or manager in my title now.
who knows what will happen to me down the line. i just want something relevant to the job i am doing and something i can put on my CV that is recognised.
ICT technician is the winner at the moment i think
Get the senior in there though.
If they do take on more staff to help you, they'll come in as ICT Technicians as well putting you all on the same level.0 -
i don't think they would go with senior. they are most likely to think senior is something that goes with age.0

I wanted to add that in my experience Managers and Heads Of who really are in charge of a lot of people are good candidates for redundancy: I have seen many layers of managers removed, leaving just the workers to get on with things. It was no great loss to the company in many cases.
Where it is just a fancy job title, it shows a lack of respect for the English language and will not fool experienced recruiters. Your tasks and responsibilities are what they will be interested in, and if they want to know how many people you managed you will look silly if you had no team. I suppose that Network Manager might be different though.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

i was purely looking at it from a role point of view. managing the systems and networks.
again i am not experienced in job titles hence my post here.
i agree that having a manager in the title is probably not a good idea considering what has gone on.
ICT technician so far, going once....0 -
Job titles are of no great relevance, why get precious over this?
When working through job evaluation exercises it never ceased to amuse me how often folks would get their under-ware knotted about their job title.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
i was just thinking about my CV. i leave this job and have a title that does not accurately represent what my role was and a potential employer would see that.
i guess it really isn't as important than i thought?
IT coordinator - as explained above this seems to be for the public sector, schools etc but this is what has been suggested to me. so should i just go with it even if it is not relevant?0 -
ICT Factotum? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I've had some bizarre job titles in my time - but none of them have made it onto my CV.
My theory is that so long as my CV is honest and reflects what I actually did (which it does) then I can describe my previous roles in any way I like.0 -
ok thanks all.0
