Travel Insurance with Insureandgo

I have been insured with Insureandgo Travel Insurance for quite a number of years. I have been lucky enough on my travels never to have experienced any misfortune.
Unfortunately my laptop got damaged on a flight from Geneva to London. I followed all the steps set out in the terms and conditions, only to be told that they will not pay out and that I should claim from my household insurance?!
I am simply astounded as I have never ever claimed anything from any insurance in my life before, and when I genuinely needed it to cover an accident that happened on a flight, for which I am insured, I was told they simply won't pay out.
Please never ever insure with these people.

I would make a claim from the airline as it is they who damaged your laptop, Insure & Go are very particular about their insurance - I have platinum cover and have to to list items such as laptops separately so that they are then covered when I am travelling for business.
Travel insurance tends to cover in case of illness or accident to your person as opposed to your items, if you had wanted to take your laptop abroad you should have notified Insure & Go and got it listed separately. It is up to you to make ensure that you are adequately insured and not the insurance company.
I think that in this instance they were right to refuse your claim. There is nothing to stop you from claiming from the airline now is there?0 -
Really sorry Horace, but you are wrong. This Insurance company is notorious for NOT paying out claims. I will never insure with them again. They do not state when selling the policy that you have to insure laptops separately - and why would you have travel insurance and more insurance for your cameras, laptops etc?
If I have a car accident and my insurance asks me to claim from travel insurance I would be alarmed.
This is simply a dodgy outfit. I will never recommend them to anyone.0 -
Follow the complaints procedure and if need be go to the ombudsman once you've exhausted that.0

To be honest, I never see the need to double insure.
When I take out insurance for travel I am asked do i want to insure for baggage, personal items (which would cost more) then I dont because these things are already covered on my house contents insurance, I see no point in paying twice for the same cover.
And if you do you get what the OP has ended up with or both insurances pay for the items 50/50 in which case you lose two lots of excesses. Plain daft to me.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

That may be your experience but I made a claim for money stolen while on holiday earlier this year and it was paid quickly and in full so I think the word notorious is perhaps a bit strong.0
