Converted Word Doc to PDF and went from 700kb to 7.4mb!!! WHY!

I am trying to send a Word Document standard 2 page text with some colour and one small picture and when i convert it to a PDF file to send it via email the size goes to a whopping 7.4mb!!
I have no idea why as a similar other document only goes to 2.4mb so i am unsure why this one goes so big!
Suggestions?
I am using Mac with Office!

What did you use to convert it to pdf, it may have embedded fonts etc, oops just seen the Mac word , my knowledge stops at isn't that a raincoat. I do think that primopdf is available for mac that may cut it down somewhat.

When converting it to PDF all i did was save as PDF file in the Office Word!No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Does it make a difference if you use save as, PDF, then put the dot in minimum size (publishing online)?

How about sending the Word document? Anybody can read a Word document can't they? I can and I don't have Word.Suggestions?

Can you install a pdf printer suc a bullzip on mac, if so that may resolve the size problem.0
