Kodak All in One printer - error message won't go away

Options
I'm hoping someone out there in MSE land can help me!

I bought a Kodak AiO ESP5250 printer in May 2011. It had been working flawlessly until last weekend when an error message came up on the screen, code 3533 paper jam. There have been no paper jams but I followed the diagnostics on the machine and on the Kodak website, no result. I've rebooted, cleaned the print heads etc, downloaded the latest software & firmware - no result. I took it back to the shop (PC World) on Monday but they said as it was under mfr's warranty I had to contact Kodak. I hooked it back up to my PC again and by now I couldn't even get into the printer menu - the error message is here to stay.

The Kodak helpline had a 20 minute wait all Monday afternoon, then conveniently closed at 5pm. The online chat was similarly busy - no agents available. I emailed them and after 24 hours got a reply suggesting I do all the diagnostics that I had already done (and which I had told them in my email I had already done). I'm now waiting for a 2nd email from them but given that I had to wait over 24 hours for the first one I'm not very hopeful.

Have you ever encountered this problem with a Kodak printer? If so, how did you resolve it? I've read other online help forums that suggest virtually taking the thing apart and cleaning it but I'm wary of doing that in case it invalidates the warranty. In the meantime I'm minus any print/scan/copy functionality and it is seriously putting a crimp in my day!

Does it ask for paper if you leave the paper tray out? You may need to reset the printer first by switching it off, removing the power lead from the back of the printer for a minute, then replacing it and switching the printer on

Did you get a cleanout assembly with the printer?
  • Haven't tried the paper tray thing but did everything else you suggested. The cleanout assembley is the grey thing at the back isn't it? I took this out and ran some clean sheets of paper through to see if anything was stuck, but nada.

After posting yesterday OH & I went back to PC World (who had given me the bum's rush on Monday) and spoke to someone else who agreed to send the printer away to Kodak for repair, ETA 28 days . By the time I got home I had received an email from Kodak CS saying that as none of the normal diagnostics had worked they had already sent me a new printer in exchange for this one and it should be delivered within 5 days! I had to hot-foot it back to PC World and retrieve my unit again.

It's a result of sorts but I don't think I'll be buying Kodak again.

Big misconception about Kodak printers being cheap to run, they aren't really, 5 inks in one cartridge is old technology and incredibly wastefull, you never use all the inks at the same rate so once one colour goes that's the cartridge finished, you could be throwing away most of the ink it that cartridge. Plus the feedback we get from our customers isn't that good infact most are very disapointed, they are not cheap machines to buy and for the same money you can get much better quality machines that take individual carts, sadly most people seem to want to buy from PC World and they just love to sell people Kodak machines.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
