This is true. It's not going to do any good for infected systems. However there's no harm in being extra careful with these things.

If no one is watching, then all it does it take more time to do the same task.

If someone is watching, then it will do nothing to prevent passwords from being stolen. Keyloggers can do far more than just monitor physical keystrokes.

Also those plain text files will be very visible to someone looking for passwords, hidden attribute or not. Even hack tools in the 90s had features specifically to find .txt files when accessing compromised systems! Unless they are encrypted, then this method will ultimately leave someone more vulnerable IMO.
  • I suppose we all have our opinions.

And i don't mean just simple .txt files, i mean files that have a load of text in already, that have a random word in it somewhere that is your password.

    .txt files? Random words?
Use your word processor to write it out longhand.
e.g "password for hotmail is: ambidextrous".

Somebody would have to scan gigabytes of my files to find just the one page. Unless you label the file "passwords".
(And that's also on my 'D' drive, after they have scoured my 'C' drive.)
Keep it on a USB stick, and use it when you need it maybe?
