Hello, my laptop is slowly dying a death so I'm looking for another one as i will be scuppered if it goes in the middle of an assignment!
Any recommendations,I've got a dell at the moment but its a 15inch screen so was looking for a smaller one to carry round with me for uni!
Thanks!

Best to say what you want to do with it - eg music/pictures/ gaming/ course work etc. Also what yr budget is. New/second hand/refurbished etc

Might help folks to give a more focused set of recommendations.

dell outlet is a good place to look - but as robmar0se says the budget/use would be helpful

  • Sorry should have mentioned that the dying is due to the screen going not the speed of it, ive had it looked at but they have said its not worth repairing!

What do you mean by going? How old, which model?

  • Its about 2 1/2 years old, Inspiron 15. The connection to the screen seems to be going, sometimes it will work, sometimes it will flicker and go blank and other times it wont work full stop!

Rachael, The first thing to do is to attach an external monitor to the laptop. If the jitter on the external doesn't appear we can be pretty sure that it is one of the following.

If the flicker is horizontal (rollong down the screen rather than across), sounds like either the inverter or a bad connection on the screen cable - I have one at the moment with this problem, and it is the latter - usually can be replaced for about £40, although it might be the inverter which can be got depending on the model for about £25 depending on the model etc. Not diffilcult to get access and replace, checking these things out is usually done via checking the connections, and replacing one or both units.

2.5 years is too short for the life of a laptop
