Thank you for your support everyone.:T
The job has been done, Dignity has remained pretty much intact.
I was a wreck on the way to court (police called me later to say that I had left the car window fully open, sat nav on, disabled 'blue badge' on display DUUHH).
Paperwork passed the test, number one worry out of the way. i was asked to see the judge but they felt it appropriate to let me represent my Hubby too! There were questions relating to Hubbys understanding of the BR, but Judge accepted that the problem was with expressive communication, and so the Orders were made.PHEW:o
I have to say once home, i felt more relaxed than I had felt for as long as I can remember. Several creditors letters were waiting for us, i did open them but what a relief to be able to think, yeah yeah yeah!
I know we still have the OR to deal with , bank accounts to set up or sort out etc, but we are on our way!
I have no doubt that I will be calling upon the good people of this forum for assistance and advice again soon!
  • Just a word of advice with regards to bank accounts. I was declared bankrupt nearly 6 years ago and opened a bank account with co-operative bank just days later. A very basic account, but I could set up direct debits and standing orders to pay my bills and could withdraw money at cash points and had chip and pin, so not bad considering. However, my bank I very recently discovered completey mislead me throughout the last 5 years. I was informed at the time of opening my account that after 2 years it would be reviewed to get a better account, so based on this information I chose this bank thinking ahead I obviously wanted to get back on my feet. So, 2 years later I approached my bank who informed me that was incorrect information and that nowhere would ever consider me for a better account until 6 years after I was declared bankrupt. I'm now in a position where I am trying to get a mortgage, proving tricky but not impossible (although i'm not there yet!), and speaking to a financial adviser was asked why my bank had never spoken to me about getting a better account with a small overdraft to try and start building my credit rating. Obviously I told him what my bank had said, and so he informed me that Natwest offer a basic account, but they do consider you for better accounts after around 6 months, and will continue to do so to help you build your credit rating.

Anyway, my point is don't just open up the first account you get accepted for, look around, because I honestly think I could have been in a better position by now had I not listened to my bank.

    Best of luck :-)

As a new bankrupt, the Co-op offered you an account with chip and pin, cashpoint access, and direct debits.

You mention several times about it being 'basic', yet all the 'better' accounts seem to offer, according to you, is an overdraft - more debt.

Time and track record are the great healers here, so the most important thing is to get an account which suits your banking needs and run it responsibly month after month, year after year,
