Is this a breach of DPA

long story short, being made redundant at the end of the year and whilst completing our online forms r.e do you want vol or comp redundancy. There was a tick box which say we work with Hays (recruitment) etc and would you like your details passed on etc. yes......
Received and email today from Hays (on mobile) and it shows that it has been copied in to approx 60-70 others at the same firm but is shows theirs and mine private email addressess, so I can assume that they have mine aswell when they read the email????

This does happen and whilst it's irritating (and lax) I'm not sure that it's necessarily a breach of the DPA. Email addresses are fairly 'out there' in the public domain, not unlike your home address really. I'm guessing that no other personal details can be matched with or identified from your email address alone so I very much doubt there's any 'risk' to you in terms of identity fraud or theft.
Having said all that, I'd find it annoying and would contact Hays suggesting that they use BCC rather than visible addresses. I doubt it's actually against the law but it is poor practice."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
