Tiling, including cost of removing plumbing and floor

Hello! I've been quoted £280 for removing my wooden floor boards, toilet, sink and bath, and to get tiles put in. My bathroom is small, 5m sq. How does that sound?

Sounds reasonable if you live in the north of England. What type of floor will they replace the boards with, or did you mean removing laminate?

i've got wooden floorboards (not laminate) and i'm paying him to put tiles on it. i've got my own tiles.

i'm guessing they have quoted for removing the floorboards and replacing with ply? if so it will need to be 25mm ply and needs a flexi adhesive. quote sounds about right.

Personnally I prefer to use 18mm chipboard screwed to the joists every 300mm along their length and overboard that with 6mm Hardibacker screwed on the premarked points (300x300mm centres). After that use a flexible adhesive and grout. I find this gives a more stable surface to tile to and I have never had a movement crack or grout failure with this system. Others may have their own way but like I say, you can only say what you know to have worked. Doing it my way would be a little more expensive (but I think worth it for peace of mind).
