Replacing bath and sink

Options
Hi all my wife has decided she no longer likes our bath and wants it replaced along with the sink.
so here's my question, is it possible to just replace the bath with out having to remove or replace any of the tiles around the bath, I have been told there may be some clips connecting the bath to the wall, if this is right the tiles will need replacing.
also how much would a plumber charge to replace the bath and sink, I asked someone today and he said if he can do it in one day without any problems it would be £500, this sounds a bit much to me but is it about right
thanks

    Hi

We were quoted £500 to replace our whole bathroom but we were moving the sink and bath and putting in a fixed shower, plus we were redoing all the tiles completely ourself.

Due to lack of money we decided to do it our self but wished we'd got someone in as all the pipes had to be redone as everything was moving!
If everything is staying in the same place, and your new taps are in the same place it should be reasonably easy to replace a bath and sink!

Whether you will need to re-tile depends on how your tiling was done in the first place and the new shape of your bath and sink.

For example, in our original bathroom they had actually tiled around the bath and sink! Which meant if the new stuff wasn't exactly the same shape and size or bigger then you'd see the gaps in the tiles.

When we re-tiled we completely tiled the wall for the sink and put the sink on the tiles and almost half way down behind the bath.

Anyway back to your question, there will be clips holding up your bath (if it was installed correctly) but depending on the size and shape or your new bath it may not matter. If your new bath is the same size or bigger you can either reuse the brackets, or they will be hidden behind the bath. In this case unless your bath and sink were not tiled around, re-tiling probably won't be necessary.

Measure up properly and stick your head under the bath and you will be able to tell what you need to do.

unless you replace the bath with the same exact one, its unlikely you will get away with no tiling work.
either removing some or adding some.

300-500 is the going rate to replace a bath/basin.
    Get some gorm.

£300 to replace the basin/bath/toilet normally.
Maybe the first row of tiles has to be replaced, it depends on the tiling, if it's down to the bath it does, or if the bath is onto the tiles you can get away with it.

As above, you might find you need to retile the bottom row or two. Then you will probably need to clean up the grout above, so it matches the new!

Is the old bath acrylic or an old enameled iron one? If it is iron, be prepared for some heavy lifting, or smashing it up to get it out.

I broke up an old cast iron bath in situ, with a sledge hammer. God!. It was like being in a church belfry, with the added thrill of bits of sharp enamel flying about.

And there is me just about to charge £300 for a toilet & basin alone. But hey. Pipework needs to be adjusted & a steel waste pipe ripped out & replaced & clay pipe cut. Then there is the fittings on top of that which will be another £100ish.
