car due a service

I was after some help please, my car Vauxhall Zafira is due a 2 year service, do we have to use a Vauxhall garage to have this done, or can we use a Ford garage, will we lose the warranty if we go to the Ford garage. Ford have advised us that we wont, and they use genuine Vauxhall parts, I understand that if there is something mechannicaly wrong when they have serviced it I can get it repaired at Vauxhall under the warranty.

As long as the work is done by a VAT registered garage, all work is done that should be done and original OEM parts are used, then the warranty is safe.... Keep the receipts though!

All dealerships like to extract money from people by telling them they have to have the work done with them in order to maintain the warranty. Your Ford garage would say exactly the same thing if you bought a car from them.

When I say that this is what dealerships tell you, it's not what comes from their mouths, but it's what they lead you to believe.

  • With such a difference in price I'd ask what each one includes for the price.

This. Worrying as it is a 'Ford Garage' which sounds like another dealer to me and would have similar prices for labour I'd have thought.

If you'd said 'a local independent' I'd be less concerned, just make sure they are carryign out the service as set out in the book with the right bits and your warrenty will be fine (as long as it is a VAT registered garage as said above).

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Two year is a major service. The VX price is about correct, the Ford price is too low, sounds like they have quoted for an interim service which VX are currently offering for £99.

Average price is around £200 for the second service.
If it's that cheap at Ford I wouldn't think they were doing everything in the book, so it may well affect the warranty if you ever need to claim.
You'll also need to get the anti perforation bodywork inspection done by vauxhall, if you want to keep that.
  • Thankyou for all your comments, will check with each garage what it is that they are going to do.
