Budget Skirting / Architrave (sp?)
TOOTHACHE

Hello
We have a large 5 bed house that hasn't been touched since the mid-sixties.
The skirting and architrave (thats the bit around the door isn't it?) are really skinny, lumpy with years of gloss paint and dented from the hoover.
Every room needs to be addressed.
I went to B&Q, wickes, homebase etc - even local builders merchants and I totally bamboozled by what to get.
I don't want to spend a fortune, oak would be lovely but we have a 14mth old who will no doubt be ramming toy cars into it for a few years so I need something fairly cheap and cheerful.
All the skirting I saw was quite deep and fancy with all sorts of grooves and lips.
Is there a cheap way of doing it at all?

basic pine skirting is less than 30 quid for an 8 pk, at wickes.

Hi, Pop into your local timber merchants, you will be surprised to find that they are usually much cheeper than the usual DIY stores. I was able to re do a complete room ( 12 x 12ft ) with 4" beaded door facings and 6" matching skirtings all in pine. I found mine at my local KEYLINE builders0
