Power Shower turning itself off when in use.

As the title says, our power shower was switching itself off when we were having a shower.
To use the shower you have to switch on the massive red switch outside the bathroom, and then turn the shower unit ( on the wall ) to 'on' then voila! we have water...

However, recently its been switching itself off whilst we've been having a shower, and you have to switch off the shower unit, leave it for 30 secs, then put it back on. ( the light on the outside switch is still lit up and working )

But now.. it wont switch on at all. nothing. no water, no light on the shower unit. ( again - outside light is still 'on & appears to be working)

Any ideas? Oh, no main fuse is 'tripping' either. I did check that :D

I cant wait to move! Problem after problem in this house :rotfl:

You are not talking about a power shower then, you are talking about an electric shower?
    Make and model would help.

Sounds like the overheat protection has been cutting in for whatever reason.
Is there any flow when set to cold?

Do any lights come on on the unit itself when you start it? You really need to establish if power is getting to the shower itself, which requires testing with a multimeter at the mains terminals inside the unit. Unless you know 100% what you are doing, get someone in.

The fact that it works for a while, then stops, shows that power is getting to it, surely?

Ours would tend to shut down due to a faulty solenoid. I got a replacement solenoid from the folks linked to above, took it off the wall onto a workbench, replaced solenoid, and it was fine after that.

Most plumbers will just tell the OP to replace the whole unit, as will most electricians, but if the OP can find the true cause of the problem, it's likely to be a £15 part and an hour or so on the workbench - for someone who is competent with it.

The OP said that it is not working at all now. Power is the first thing to check, as the easiest issue to diagnose.

Heya. It appears no power is getting to the shower at all. The light on the shower unit certainly doesnt come on.
  • +1 for the solenoid. Its easy enough to check - just test for continuity across the two terminals on the solenoid with a multimeter. Be sure to isolate (switch off at the fuse box) the shower first and if you aren't sure what your doing get some qualified help.
