Council Tax - Single Person Occupancy

  • Thanks for your responses. I am waiting for a telephone interview now. I do not rent my home. My son is using my address for his post for practical reasons because he is often away on exercise (sometimes abroad) and has been on tour to Afghanistan twice. When his post was sent to his camp he did not always receive it as the post room was unreliable. This is the same reason he has a proxy vote because it was unlikely he would get his ballot card and the Army advised him to set this up because he was going to be on tour at the last general election. Getting more worried now - will post the outcome.
  • Also, I wrote to the local authority in 2008 to inform them that my son had left home to join the Army and they wrote back to inform me that I had been awarded a single persons discount. They did not ask me questions about his mailing arrangements then, or since. As far as I was/am concerned he did not live with me any more. I put his name on the last review form as someone who uses the family home address for mailing purposes because that is true (and obviously they can check this anyway). If I had known this would cause a problem I would have asked him to get his mail sent to a PO address and would not have agreed to be a proxy voter on his behalf.
