Hi. I am a Taxi Drive.Over the weekend I found a wallet containing a Santander Visa Card plus driving licence and other cards. In the first instance I contacted Santander via their customer service number to explain I had found the cards and could they please contact their customer for me saying I will return them later that day. They refused to contact him and cancelled his card.I felt their attitude stinks.I would not have hurt to contact their account holder to advise him that a Taxi Driver had found their wallet and will be returning it later.I won't be banking with Santander for sure.

It would be common practice for a bank to just cancel the card im sure they appreciated you contacting them though.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

Yeah think it would be all policy for banks to cancel the cards immediately. Same when shops find them in stores; they only keep them for 24 hrs then return them - whats stopping them keeping them longer; well security.0

Hi again.Yes I fully agree that it is good practice to cancel the cards etc.but it would not have hurt them to pass a message onto their customer for me.0

I did the same once. Co-op cancelled my card but told me how to collect the wallet. I believe all banks cancel cards if it is known that they have been out of you possession0

Did you offer to bring card and wallet 'round to the customer's house?
The wallet should have been handed-in to either the nearest police station or the nearest bank branch. Whatever bank and customer do to the card(s) is their business. Don't you realize the security risk if a third party knows not only the card details, but also the card holder's address, date of birth and what other information might have been inside the wallet?
I do believe, it is paramount to cancel all the cards.0 -
Yes of course i understand the risk that is why i contacted Santander asap. The wallet contained not only cards but a Driving Licence/other cards and alterative forms of ID including a NI number. It would have been a fraudsters dream. All i wanted Santander to do was pass on a message to their customer that i will drop the wallet to their customer later that day as i did that evening. All i wanted to do was to make sure my passenger got his wallet back.I just felt that Santander could have been more helpfull.
