Help Keyboard locked on Dell Laptop

Hi, my Dell Studio Laptop keyboard has locked and I am unable to use it. I have looked on the internet but tried several suggestions but so far no luck. I have the 'wonderful' Vista OS. Appreicate any advice. Many Thanks

Process to do this was: 1) disconnect A/C power supply, 2) remove battery, 3) press and hold the "power on" button for between 15 to 30 seconds, 4) re-install the battery, 5) re-start the laptop. What do you mean by locked, is windows running?
holding the power button down is much faster. There's always a risk that windows might not start afterwards though!!
