How long does it take to switch?

I am on a British Gas fixed tariff with a £70 penalty charge which expires on 30th September. I requested a switch to EDF Fixed Price 2014 via moneysupermarket on 5th September because my understanding was the switch would take at least 4 weeks but I am now worrying this is a risk.

Any views on whether I should cancel the switch before the 12 day cooling off period ends and reapply? Has anyone been switched in less than 4 weeks?

I'm afraid that it's impossible to predict the time scale of any individual Switch, and if yours go thro' before Sept 30 BG will indeed apply exit penalties.
But take note that the Switch date is the date that EDF advise you they are taking over the supply,
not the date you started the Switch process - There have been postings of suppliers trying it by applying penalties due to the Switch process Start date, if this happens to you tell BG to take a running jump.

You can take a chance on cancelling with EDF, but there is no Guarentee they won't withdraw the 2014 Fix before Sept 30th.

It takes a minimimum of 28 days, and more typically about 6 weeks, to change supplier.

Previous gas switches via comparison site have taken me 38 - 44 calendar days.
