I have just bought a new home insurance policy with Direct Line rather than renew existing policy.
Currently paying £450, renewal was £540, online was £375, with £75 back from Quidco (fingers crossed).

When I rang Direct Line not to renew my existing policy, the lady said that they would have honoured the online price, and have done so for about a year now.

So if this applies to you, get an online quote, then ring through to renew at the cheapest price.

My experience was the opposite. After a year with Direct Line, my renewal quote was almost the same as their online quotation for a new customer in my situation. However, buying online as a new customer got me some nice cashback (in fact from TopCashBack rather than Quidco).
