Amazon parcel sent to wrong address

Hi there

This is a tricky one as it was purely a stupid mistake on my part, but I recently ordered two pairs of boots from Office via Amazon at the cost of £190.00. I did not notice at the time that the delivery address I had selected was in fact my old address in Bristol which I moved from in January 2010 but the invoice address was my current address. The parcels were consequently delivered to my old address and when I checked the courier's tracking system, someone had signed for it. I have called Office and they are going to request that the courier goes to the property and attempt to collect the packages, but I was wondering how I stand? I am sure that as it was my mistake and the address on the order is the one they delivered to, I am not entitled to any sort of refund or replacement boots, but I am gutted and so annoyed with myself as that is £190 lost! I am purely depending on the honesty of the current resident in my old flat, but it sounds like they are not too honest if they went ahead and signed for a package addressed to someone they didn't know. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated! :(

Your only recourse is to contact the old flat and tell them who signed for it and when and someone will be there to collect them. Really sorry for the inconvienence, blonde moment (blah blah) making it as friendly as possible. And do that as quickly as possible.

    Hi op,

This isn't going to be what you want to hears, but....

you are correct, your entitled to nothing as the seller has fulfilled their side of the contract by delivering your order to the address provided.

I hope for you the residents are nice and the courier act fast and your able to recover the parcel. I believe they would have a duty of care with the parcel and it would NOT be classed as unsolicited goods so they must therefore reasonably allow the parcel to be collected at your expense.

Failing that, maybe contact the seller as many sellers as a gesture of goodwill would be willing to replace the items at a significant discount.

This has happened to myself in the past, I never recieved my items back and when contacted my old house, they claimed they had never recieved my items either :( sorry to have to say it but you may have yourself a problem. I only lost £10 so wasn't too disheartened and learnt from my mistake :j

Nothing further to add re. your current dilemma but make sure you delete the old address from your Amazon account. That way you won't do it again!

  • Many thanks for the replies! As it stands at the moment, Office have asked the courier to go and try and collect the parcel tomorrow but I have a feeling the new resident in my old flat will just ignore the doorbell! I have checked with someone who works in a shop next door to the flat though, as he used to take parcels in for me and he said the parcel was dropped off with him but when he asked if it needed to be signed for, the courier said no because he had put a card through the flat door, so nobody has actually signed for it which I think is terrible given that it is a package worth £190! Anybody could have picked it up! Maybe this could provide me with some sort of defence.

So who has the parcel? The shop or the flat?

so if you know the shop owners and they knew you had moved out then why did they not tell the courier driver that you were not at that address and then the courier would have taken the parcel back.
  • Someone collected the parcel from the person I know in the shop. He didn't look at who the parcel was addressed to and just assumed it was for one of the flats. Pretty annoying though as he offered to sign for it but the courier said it wasn't necessary which means anyone could have got the card put through the door and gone to the shop to collect the parcel. It wasn't the shop owner's responsibility but rather the courier.
