Car auction prices

  • Hi Wig

Thanks for the response, and apologies for not reading the thread thoroughly. I was just wondering in general what kind of savings are available buying at auction versus private or trader. Guess that's my ignorance shining through. *blush*

I would very much appreciate if you could give me some values for the following...? All 2 Litre, all manual, all estate. Audi is S-line, BMW is SE

    index.jsp?guide=prices&page=used_cars&no=3&make=Audi&model=A4+%282005-08%29&vip=21444&yearplate=2007%2F57&mileage=80&x=45&y=8

    index.jsp?guide=prices&page=used_cars&no=3&make=BMW&model=3+Series+%282005-%29&vip=40174&yearplate=2008%2F57&mileage=80&x=37&y=6

If you feel you need any more info feel free to use your own discretion as you see fit. Realistically I'm just looking for prices to compare against places like autotrader etc. to see if it might be worth my while going down the auction route for my next purchase.

    Many thanks

Thanks much easier for me now. :) BTW, The results below are all that are currently in stock within those registration dates.

In the first price column you sometimes see 'Avg', this is the average final bid price for this model with a mileage = the next column to the right, where there is no avg you can expect to bid cln to cln+10% The CLN price is aready adjusted for the mileage of that particular lot.

You will always have to add buyers commision on top of any bid price +£25 V5C process fee, buyers commission can be found from BCA branches over phone.

So, as I have said on other threads here, prices at auction are nothing special, and considering the risk you are taking you have to ask yourself if it is worth it? If there is one available at autotrader with a wisebuyers price of "private Good" or more/less then you are very unlikely to get it cheaper at auction, you are possibly/probably going to pay more.

Look at your Audi results, the second one down has an average @ 58K of £9,738 + Buyers commision + £25 V5C fee +Any other fee they decide to add like debit/credit card fees etc + the inconvenience of buying a car without road tax.... 4 minutes to inspect the car internally after it has been started, no chance to inspect the service history, although they do usually tell you how many service stamps are in the book. Total price probably something like £10,300

This same model and mileage on wisebuyers is
    http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/index.jsp?guide=prices&page=used_cars&no=3&make=Audi&model=A4+%282005-08%29&vip=21444&yearplate=2008%2F08&mileage=58&x=63&y=6
Private Good = £9,538 if you find one at that price on autotrader, you have unlimited time to inspect it, test drive it, you'll get a bit of free road tax, a chat with the seller, a look at the service history, No buyers commission to add on, no V5C processing fee. Finding a private seller who doesn't price as though they were a dealer is another matter.

I always prefer to buy privately, but sometimes you just gotta go to auction to get what you want.

I just looked on autotrader lets look at these results
    Wise buyers 2006/56 170 S Line 36,000 miles £8,158
    Autotrader private 2006/56 170 S Line 36,000 miles £9,500
    Autotrader trade 2006/56 170 S Line 47,000 miles £9,491

    BCA auction 2006/56 AUDI A4 AVANT 2.0 TDI 170 S LINE
    Manual, Diesel, 41265 miles,
    Cln = £9,950 + Buyers fee (about £400 - £500) + £25 +? +inconvenience +buyers risk

    Conclusion, cheaper on autotrader.
