Iron pipe leak quote

Hi all,
We found out a few months ago that there is a leak from the pipe that feeds our bathroom taps. It drips very slowly (one drip every 30 mins or so) so it's not crucial to get fixed asap, but we've had a lot of bad luck with quotes from the trade.
It turns out the pipe is made of iron, so if the leaking section is cut out, a copper or plastic pipe will need to replace it. The rest of the pipe looks in really bad shape, so we're not sure whether to replace the whole lot or just the leaking section.
A number of plumbers have quoted:
~ £150 to cut out the leaking section and replace with plastic pipe.
£290 - £800 to replace the whole pipe from boiler to taps and plaster the ceiling with water damage.
We used a guy not long ago to replace our boiler and he was VERY professional and hard working. We've asked him to quote and he's come back with the £800 cost to replace the whole pipe from boiler to the bathroom taps and plaster. We know he'll do an excellent job, but can't quite figure out why he is so expensive compared to all the other quotes of around £300.
Could it be that the other tradesmen have underestimated the job?
We've had two other tradesmen agree to do the job, but then not show up. It's been a few months now and I really want to get it fixed.
Thanks for any help.
Jodie
