Thank you for the replies, particularly Esqui who seems to be the only person to offer reasonable advice without being completely rude
No it wasn't a joke, and a simple YABU would have sufficed, without all the p!sstaking, thank you

As someone has already said, it is VAT - they have to charge it if you are eating in.
As for the Costa experience...there isn't one. Most of the people in my local one are in every day, and as such see it as just another place...I haven't seen anyone eating meals they've bought from elsewhere, but many expect the baristas to remember their order by heart, and think nothing of waiting for their 'usual' table and making the present occupants feel uncomfortable enough to move. There is also usually kids running round, business meetings, loud phone calls and a couple arguing.
Were there other places you could have moved too so that you didn't need to see the family eating?0 -
I cant imagine a pleasurable costa experience no matter who was in there eating whatever....
but no, even with a complaint at the time, there is no compensation situation here.0 -

What do you expect with such a ludicrous complaint.
So would you complain if YOU bought popcorn and pepsi from odeon, yet some family brought juice and crisps with them.0 -
I'm still struggling to understand what you're wanting compensating for.
They came, they are, they drank, they left.
I think it's a little bit of an overreaction that seeing someone eating a meal purchased elsewhere "ruined" your meal.
IIRC, Costa have a pretty pi*s poor selection of overpriced food, so I can't blame people for bringing their own in.
There really is no reason why this should bother you so much. I'm not trying to be rude, I just genuinely don't understand it.0 -
