Long way round could be;
Get DVD recorder
Connect output from Sky box to input on DVD recorder.
Play program, record onto DVD
Place DVD in laptop DVD-ROM drive, play DVD
Can't help with electronically liberating the raw data from the HDD in the Sky box to a file format, sorry.0 -
They are encrypted, so even if you could get the files off the HDD, which is only possible by removing the drive you would not be able to view them, the only solution was given above, and, in the case of box office movies, they won't copy.
You may find this of interest.

ahhhhhhh this question, not seen it for a while
Well sit down for the bad news, as far as I am aware (please please please I would LOVE to be corrected) this is where Sky have you by the short and curly'sThe stuff on the internal sky box hard drive that you have recorded, is basically encrypted to HELL AND BACK!! So far I have yet to see anyone find a solution for this, all wrong really in order to have continued access to the stuff you have already basically paid to see and record you have to continue with your Sky+ subscription, stop paying and all access goes out of the window
I have known people on other forum go to the extent of taking the actual hard drive out of the box and planting it into a normal desktop PC, all to no avail without the Sky box and the subscription you may as well throw the hard drive in the bin
Googler's idea seem the best bet but even then I "think" if any of the stuff is premium then I think it is also somehow magically encrypted so that it cannot be dvd recorded
Basically screwed, the USB port you see on the box never used to be connected to anything I think it is still the same on the new boxes as well I have not tried recently.
I would love someone to find a solution to this, I have LOADS and loads of great stuff on mine that I would love to lift off."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
You can certainly extract the free to air channels by connecting the hard drive to a PC and use extract+ as mentioned earlier http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/extract.php
Is it worth while? probably not for most people..
Can you view any encrypted channels including Free to view soft encrypted channels? - No

The Free-to-air channels include the BBC channels, ITV1/2/3/4 and Film4. You should be able to extract recordings from those channels by using Extract+ as posted above.
For channel 4/5 and other recordings, you won't be able to view the recordings even if you extract them.
TBH it's probably not worth the hassle.poppy100 -
