Google 'video transfer+Edinburgh'.
Most companies doing that will also do film transfers. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes google is a good starting point but nothing beats personal recommendation. I had a very bad experience with getting 9.5mm film digitised - website very impressive but firm proved themselves incapable of carrying out the work and films came back to me damaged. Subsequently had the job done properly elsewhere and happy to recommend the firm (not cheap though) but would have preferred it to be right first time.
Worth considering mail order if nobody can recommend anyone local for you. I can understand not wanting to let these treasured memories out of your sight but as long as your films are signed for both ends of their journey there is no reason to think they will come to any harm.
Whoever you choose, check they are able to splice lead-ins to the beginning of each reel if necessary, or you'll lose the first few seconds from each as the film is wound round the apparatus, before it gets to the aperture. This doesn't sound much but if it's amateur footage, it's very likely that each "burst" of filming might be less than a minute long, because cine film was expensive, so those first few seconds could be quite important. If you can't think of anything nice to write, say nothing. Rudeness isn't clever.0 -
I would like to get a personal recommendation. The film is from my husbands childhood and he has very few photos as it is so definitely don't want to get this wrong as it is a surprise for our anniversary.0
