OK, DW got a notebook for a course but finds she could sometimes do with an external disc drive. Must be cheap and plug in and go, will not have much use, available in pink an advantage!

I'm fitting the Samsung SH-S223C to most machines now - its inexpensive and Samsung is a good make. Wouldn't necessarily get it from Dabs as they are in a bit of a pickle right now, but there are many stockists

Cheap external USB drive here but it's not pink!

I was mislead by your heading, so maybe this will do assuming you want a cd/dvd external drive, rather than an external hdd (Samsung does a pink version of this as well):

Is the notebook being used somewhere where an optical drive can be shared over a network? If you have another PC with an optical drive, you could access it from your notebook.

Obviously not great if the drive is going to be used a lot, but for occasional use (or to just copy the CDs/DVDs to the notebook), it would be a lot cheaper! :money:
