Daihatsu stopping importin Jan 2013
Hi
My mum was thinking of getting a new Daihatsu. When she went to their website, there is a page saying they are stopping imports into Europe in 2013. What effect would this have on her buying a new Daihatsu? Would parts be hard to get and expensive? Would servicing become an issue with few garages having the expertise?
many thanks

The opening page of their site http://daihatsu.co.uk/ says (my bold).
It was announced on 13th January 2011 that sales of Daihatsu motor cars will cease across Europe on 31st January 2013. This is due to the ongoing strength of the Japanese Yen, which has increased prices beyond competitive levels. There is no stock of new Daihatsu cars in the UK, and we do not expect to import any new cars in this interim period.
However, we wish to reassure Daihatsu owners that all after sales services will continue unaffected. Therefore, the supply of spare parts will continue, and warranty work and servicing will be carried out at our official UK dealer network, which remains in place and whose details can be found on this website.
We thank Daihatsu customers for their past custom and loyalty, and share their disappointment at this news.
Amazing what you can find out by actually reading.0 -
ok - does this mean there are no new Daihatsus anyway?0

This is not a permanent situation , it is because they don't like the current yen exchange rate with the £, but no more orders are being taken so unless Mum can find a stock vehicle she likes its a no no. However this can't bode well for popularity on the trade in market. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

The website implies there are none. It does say that new sales were halted on 31 Jan so you'd be looking at a vehicle imported for stock over seven months ago.0 -

You can still get parts for Rovers and they went bust over 8 years ago.0 -

Not necessarily that bad if they have been stored in a warehouse.
Remember when MGRover went under and there were cars available that had been stored for 2 years. Also Subaru stopped importing (but not stopped selling) the WRX hatchback a couple of years ago, so if you bought one recently it could have also been up to 2 years old.The man without a signature.0 -

I wasn't suggesting that there would be a problem with such a car:). I was saying that the chances of there actually being any was very small.:)0 -
