My computer turns itself off!

The message I get when it reboots is serious error nvidia and then some numbers. The computer was built for me in February 2001, has run perfectly until now.

All I have running is Word and the Internet.

I'm guessing it is time to chuck it, cos I have no idea what is going on, and getting a chap to sort it out will probably cost half the price of a new PC.

Advice please.

Nvidia is a graphics card manufacturer, so it sounds like the graphics card has gone. you could always update the driver from the nvidia site

you can always get a cheapo one from the likes of ebuyer and dabs

Does it run normally for a while first? if so, it could be overheating - check the fan is turning and isn't full of dust etc.
